Learning objectives
- Understand the operations of a Quality Management System (QMS) based on ISO 9001
- Acknowledge the correlation between ISO 9001 and other standards and regulatory frameworks
- Understand the auditor’s role to: plan, lead and follow-up on a management system audit in accordance with ISO 19011
- Learn how to lead an audit and audit team
- Learn how to interpret the requirements of ISO 9001 in the context of a QMS audit
- Acquire the competencies of an auditor to: plan an audit, lead an audit, draft reports, and follow-up on an audit in compliance with ISO 19011
Educational approach
- This training is based on both theory and best practices used in QMS audits
- Lecture sessions are illustrated with practical questions and examples
- Practical exercises include examples and case study discussions
- Practice tests are similar to the Certification Exam
PECB ISO 9001 Certification Path and Requirements
After successfully passing the exam, you can apply for one of four professional credentials depending on your overall experience level. All credentials require passing the PECB Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Exam (or an approved equivalent) and signing the PECB Code of Ethics.
1. Certified ISO 9001 Provisional Auditor
Ideal for newcomers to the field who have mastered the theoretical concepts of quality management but do not yet have practical field experience.

2. Certified ISO 9001 Auditor
Designed for professionals with a foundational level of experience in quality management and audit environments.

Exam Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

Professional Experience: Two years total, with at least one year of specific work experience in Quality Management

Audit/Project Experience: A minimum total of 200 hours of qualifying project and audit activities

Additional Requirement: Sign the PECB Code of Ethics
3. Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor
The standard credential for experienced professionals who are fully qualified to plan, execute, and lead quality management system (QMS) audit teams.

Exam Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

Professional Experience: Five years total, with at least two years of specific work experience in Quality Management

Audit/Project Experience: A minimum total of 300 hours of qualifying project and audit activities

Additional Requirement: Sign the PECB Code of Ethics
4. Certified ISO 9001 Senior Lead Auditor
The highest tier for expert practitioners with comprehensive, long-term leadership experience managing complex quality management system audits.

Exam Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

Professional Experience: Ten years total, with at least seven years of specific work experience in Quality Management

Audit/Project Experience: A minimum total of 1,000 hours of qualifying project and audit activities

Additional Requirement: Sign the PECB Code of Ethics
Qualifying Audit Activities Note: To meet PECB requirements, your logged hours must involve active components of the assessment process, such as planning audits, managing audit programs, reviewing documentation, conducting on-site audits, drafting nonconformity or final reports, and leading an audit team.
