Course Outline
Explore various approaches to embedded firmware design, including event loops combined with interrupts, RTOS implementation, and purely event-driven methodologies. Understand the fundamental characteristics of simple RTOS environments, specifically focusing on FreeRTOS and the CMSIS RTOS v2 interface.
Investigate thread states, the FreeRTOS scheduler, and timing dependencies. Gain a comprehensive understanding of synchronization mechanisms and their applications, covering queues, semaphores, and mutexes, as well as the interaction between the RTOS and interrupts.
Practical Exercises:
1. Develop a FreeRTOS application using STM32CubeIDE, focusing on thread management, timing dependencies, and the parametrization of threads and timers.
2. Engage in the incremental design of a real-world example, implementing queues, semaphores, interface threads, application threads, and managing interactions with interrupts.
Requirements
Fundamental familiarity with the C programming language and microcontroller technology is required.
